Scotney Castle in Lamberhurst, Kent, is often overlooked when it comes to Kentish castles, but, in many eyes, it's one of the most picturesque to visit, with an interesting history to boot. The site itself is actually home to two castles - the new castle, now owned by the National Trust, and the old castle, now beautiful ruins that sit on a small island in the middle of the lake. The estate was originally owned by Lambert de Scoteni in 1137 - hence the name "Scotney Castle". In 1259, Walter de Scoteni, a distant relative of the original owner, attended a banquet where he allegedly poisoned the Earl of Gloucester. Many members of the party became ill, including the Earl of Gloucester himself, and his brother William de Clare. The latter died, but the Earl survived, apparently losing much of his hair, nails and skin in the process. Walter de Scoteni was hanged for his crime. Some historians now believe that Walter could have been innocent, and the ghost that thumps around the estate is said to be that of Walter himself - afterall, it was his family name that the castle bears.

Walter is black ghost with metallic green poison running through his veins... Finished with a satin UV resistant sealant.

The Tall One is inspired by our close neighbours in East Sussex. Thought to originate in the iron age, or even the neolithic period, the Long Man of Wilmington is a 72m tall figure, carved into the steep slopes of Windover Hill. This ghost is uniquely ours, and we're proud to have The Tall One as part of our Signature Collection. It combines elements from Kentish history, as well as our neighbours in Sussex, with whom Kent has always had a close association with.

Each Kent Coast Ghost is carefully handcrafted from clay and goes through several processes which include drying, sanding, sealing, painting, and finally varnishing, (dependent on the final finish). We don't use moulds to create our ghosts - every feature is added by hand using traditional clay tools - so every single one has its own unique features. Some of our ghosts are not perfectly straight, or may have different expressions in their eyes and faces...

They are also individually hand-painted so may contain slightly different patterning to the ghost pictured. This means that your ghost will not be exactly the same as the one photographed, as each one is as unique as you are.

All of our ghosts will be sent in a gift box with a Certificate of Authenticity especially for your ghost, and yours alone. These are put in a special envelope sealed with our very own special spooky wax seal.

Different screen resolutions can change the accuracy of the colours slightly, and your ghost may look different from the one pictured due to the handmade nature of these curious creations. Please also note the certificate of authenticity pictured will be unique to your ghost and will contain different information.
